I started my career working as a COBOL programming consultant for a small firm in New York City. I was assigned to Barclay's Bank, and after proving myself, I was brought on as an employee of the Bank.
My next step was to leave lower Manhattan to return to Connecticut to work, and to earn my degree from Fairfield University. Once again, I was in the financial services space, working for Union Trust Company.
Bank mergers became commonplace, and Union Trust was not untouched. I found myself in search of a new position, and that brought me to Caldor Corporation. My time with Caldor was short, as I was able to secure a position at People's Bank in Bridgeport, CT.
I held a number of positions at People's, and truly enjoyed my time there. I also went back to school at this time, earning my MBA, with a concentration in Marketing, from Fairfield University. Unfortunately for me, the economy took a downturn and staff needed to be reduced. I then moved on to Aquarion Water, taking on the new and exciting responsibility of establishing formal project management methodologies and a PMO.
Aquarion moved to an SAP environment, and with that, their project management methodologies and needs changed. With this change, I then embarked on the consulting path, bringing my project management skills to several local firms.
After the consulting projects were finished, I joined the team at Survey Sampling International, again, in the position of starting up a formal project management process. As we are all well aware, the economy once again turned, bringing the U.S. into one of the worst recessions ever seen. SSI needed to trim staff, and with that, my position was eliminated.
As my career has taken several turns, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed my work equally, regardless of industry.
I see my current situation as one of new beginnings, and I am excited to see in which industry my next opportunity will be!
